People’s Movement Assembly

to End the War on Drugs

Produced by Deborah Small

The “War on Drugs” is a failure.  It has failed to reduce drug abuse or drug related crimes.  Instead it has fueled explosive growth in the prison industrial complex.  It has generated a wave of unprecedented violence throughout Mexico and Latin America that has brought death to more than 50,000 Mexicans over the past 6 years and instability to the entire region as cartels fight for profits derived from supplying the insatiable demand for illicit drugs.  The “War on Drugs” is fracturing families, stigmatizing people, fueling violence, and damaging communities.  This afternoon Break the Chains is hosting a People’s Movement Assembly on the War on Drugs and its impact on our communities.  Join them for a day long community gathering where together everyone will develop ways to end the war on our communities and invest in people instead of prisons.  Break the Chains is calling on all people to connect, collaborate, and join them in envisioning new drug policies grounded in science, health, and human rights.  The power of collective action depends on the engagement of Bay Area organizations and people of conscience.
