in Afghanistan:

A Progressive Response

The Wellstone Club recently re-examined the failing U.S. policy in Afghanistan.  It’s been eight and a half years since the U. S. invasion of Afghanistan.  There have been over 1,000 deaths of U.S. personnel, countless Afghan deaths, and a commitment of yet another 30,000 more troops.  The U.S. government is squandering the nation’s wealth when our resources are gravely needed elsewhere.  This evening the Wellstone Club presents in person the very renown Reese Erlich and Norman Solomon who will speak to this issue.

Reese Erlich is a veteran investigative reporter widely published in print, on radio and television, and a noted author.  His book, co-authored with Norman Solomon, Target Iraq:  What the News Media Didn’t Tell You, was a best seller.  Among many other books, is his new book Conversations with Terrorists: Middle East Leaders on Politics, Violence, and Empire to be published this year.  He is an authority on the Middle-East and traveled to Afghanistan with Norman Solomon last year.

Norman Solomon, a long-time peace and justice activist, serves on the national advisory board of Progressive Democrats of America and is co-chair of the “Healthcare Not Warfare‚” campaign.  He is a co-author of the resolution‚ “End the U.S. Occupation and Air War in Afghanistan‚” now the official position of the California Democratic Party.  He is the executive director of the Institute for Public Accuracy and has authored many books, including‚ War Made Easy: How Presidents and Pundits Keep Spinning Us to Death, now a documentary film.  He has visited Iran, Iraq, and, last year, Afghanistan with Reese Erlich.
