The Fellowship of Humanity

a Progressive Meeting Hall

is a member of

Oakland/Santiago de Cuba

Sister Cities

The Fellowship of Humanity, in partnership with Oakland/Santiago de Cuba Sister Cities, endorses, encourages, and celebrates all activities of the Cuban people that improve and enlarge their daily lives -- universal health care, universal education, the universal adoption of permaculture to replace the wasteful, toxic, and destructive practices of agribusiness, and the universal adoption of sane and sustainable products that are safer for the environment.

Cuba is a great example to all the world of healthy, educated, sustainable human survival.  The Fellowship of Humanity acknowledges and celebrates Cuba's leadership in living sustainably and economically on the Earth.  The Fellowship of Humanity aspires to follow Cuba's example.  It is good to know that Hugo Chavez, President of Venezuela, also recognizes Cuba's contribution to the world ever since Cuba pioneered ecological living within the limits prescribed by the natural resources of the island.

The Prensa Latina news agency reports that Hugo Chavez said that Cuba's energy-saving program has captured the world's attention for its positive results in combining energy and economic savings while reducing environmental pollution.  Hugo Chavez said:  "We owe all of this to Cuban President Fidel Castro."

The Fellowship of Humanity

a Humanist Church

is strengthened by the

Revolutionary Spirit

that's Changing the Culture of

Latin America

Latin America is successfully rising up today against 500 years of colonial domination. The Fellowship of Humanity supports the peoples in every country of Latin America in their efforts to free themselves of systemic, colonial oppression.  This oppression has been disastrous to all environments, plants and animals, as well as human beings.  All ecological systems of the Earth are dying.  The Fellowship of Humanity deplores the selfish and thoughtless wrecking and robbing of environments and people and honors and supports, insofar as it is able, all endeavors to shake off oppressors and allow the environment and people to live as they need to live to survive together on this small and fragile planet Earth.  The peoples of Latin America are on on their way to living cooperatively, economically, and sustainably, continually gaining more freedoms that bring them more self respect and more capability to heal the environment.

The Fellowship of Humanity joins in the struggles of Latin American peoples to stand up to and overcome gargantuan oppressors, today in the form of multi-national mega-corporations and/or corrupt and violent governments.  The Fellowship of Humanity, like forward-looking Latin American communities today, aspires to be a conscious community based on simplicity, generosity, sustainability, cooperative economics, and ideals of communitarianism instead of the deceit, meanness, carelessness, competition, and beliefs in domination that prevail in America today.

The future belongs to people whose community spirit incorporates both sustainable and exciting ideas and actions.  Accordingly, the Fellowship of Humanity is in process of developing a spirituality in harmony with the ecology of the Earth.  As in Latin America, it is important in North America to fulfill the natural yearning of human beings to comfort one another and all life around them;  to be sensitive, responsive, and helpful to the needs of others -- including those in the plant and animal kingdoms;  to solve problems that make a difference between life and death;  to heal not only ailments but sufferings and conflicts;  to enjoy being alive among others;  to play with everyone and everything;  to engage oneself in intriguing, challenging, stimulating, and rewarding activities;  and to believe that one's own life has a good purpose.  Progressive cooperative communities in Latin America today are examples to all the world -- and to the Fellowship of Humanity church community -- of conscious living on a human scale and humane.

The Fellowship of Humanity is slowly building, step by step, a progressive eco-Humanist community and village on a human scale that responds to the real and obvious biological needs of human beings.  Most of us realize that we are animals, primates, closest to the great apes.  Yet in American society we are expected to think and act like machines.  We are rewarded for admiring and emulating numbers, precision, quantification, uniformity, conformity, consistency, efficiency, sterility, durability, and endurance.  It is an engineer's society with the productive aspirations of engineers, both social and technologic engineers.  Our houses are engineered; our work places; our home and office products; our communications; our transportation; our recreational equipment; our sports equipment; our vacation spots; our education; our public health care systems; our media; our publishing; our crops; and most incredibly, our food.  All human activities are engineered, pleasantly packaged, and sold back to us as consumer goods.  The human species has become so productive that the Earth is dying under the weight and heat of our resourcefulness.

At the Fellowship, we slow down and re-humanize ourselves.  We remember we belong to the animal kingdom and the Earth.  We advocate living a natural life.  We step back from numbers.  We advocate sleeping when we are drowsy, not because we have taken a pill;  waking up when we are done with sleep, not because a c lock has reached a certain number.  We advocate working with our hands and basic tools, not relying on motors;  working until we are tired of working, not working to commands or until a clock has reached a certain number.  We advocate working on projects that suit the seasons, not working regardless of whether it's winter or summer;  working in a time frame that pleases us, not to make deadlines.  We advocate working for the real and obvious needs of others, not for their wavering fantasies;  working for the enrichment of the community as a whole, not to compare our material wealth with others.  We advocate eating wholesome food slowly together, not eating alone in a hurry;  eating and talking honestly together, not drinking to force conversation.  We advocate including in our lives as many animals and plants as possible, not succumbing to the sterile rules of landlords;   accommodating our lives, our housing, our communities, our transportation systems to the needs of animals rather than machines.  We advocate cultivating friendships with good and honest people among those whom we have met, not playing social or psychological or political games with acquaintances whom we think we have to surpass.  We advocate devoting a third of our waking hours to responsibilities that result in our survival and in our development of conscious, ecologic communities, not devoting hours to making waste-generating products just to look like we are busy.  We advocate using the other third of our young waking lives to follow our own interests, not waiting until we retire to do what we have always wanted.  We advocate re-humanizing our lives!

Analyzes Capitalism

in her "Story of Stuff"

The Fellowship of Humanity is in solidarity with Annie Leonard's analysis of capitalism and the sad and dangerous condition of America today.  And we are in solidarity with so many others, David Korten for example, Naomi Klein, Noam Chomsky, Howard Zinn people who have come to similar conclusions.  Currently capitalism in American society, and globally now, is out of control.  Global capitalism globalization or imperialism by another name creates, by force, consumer societies world wide which collectively are consuming the veritable Earth.  As an unstoppable growth, turning everything and everybody into capital at any cost, it is cancer as Joel Kovel calls it.

The Fellowship community and spirit advocates mightily for the opposite philosophy and vision:  an eco-centric human scale village both comfortable and stable in its bio-region while mindful of, and connecting with, global humanity.
